Jacob's Ladder
2312 Words - 9 Pages.... the Christian
attitudes toward death and afterlife, although large differences do exist. The
central cultural attitudes toward death and afterlife in this film can be summed
up by a quotation from Jake's chiropractor (who can also be seen as his guardian
angel), who said, "The only thing that burns in hell is the part of you that
won't let go of your life, your memories, your attachments, they burn it all
away. But they aren't punishing you, they're freeing your soul." The
chiropractor also says that the way he sees it, "If you're frightened of dieing
and you keep trying to hold on you'll see devils tearing your life away. If
you've made your peace then the devils are reall ....

Movie: Arsenic And Old Lace
246 Words - 1 Pages.... . Little do they know that there nephew, Jonathan, who left them
when he was young, has killed just as many people as they did. Much to
Jonathan's surprise , the aunts killed just as many men without the plastic
surgery , without the running , they just sat right there .
"Charge…" we hear as Teddy Brewster runs up the stairs. This
caracter brings out the most comedy in the picture. Teddy is the only character
in the movie that proves to be insane in my opinion. Any man who thinks he is a
dead president (TDR) has to have some problems.
The plot unfolds when Mortimer Brewster finds out about his
aunts secret after finding a present in the window seat . Mortimer panics ....

The Use Of “Foil” Characters In Shakespeare’s Hamlet
1330 Words - 5 Pages.... Hamlet was killed by his brother Claudius,
Fortinbras’s father was killed by King Hamlet during battle and Laertes
father Polonius was slain by the hand of Hamlet. These three near
identical situations give rise to three very different courses of action
(or inaction). It is here that Laertes and Fortinbras display their true
purpose in the play.
If we first examine the acts of Fortinbras we can see numerous
occasions when the brave and instinctive actions of this character reflect
poorly upon the character of Hamlet. For example although we do not see
Fortinbras’s initial reaction to his fathers death, we know that from the
outset of the play he has already set ou ....

A Street Car Named Desire: Blanche
810 Words - 3 Pages.... she is better than Stella’s lifestyle. This attitude is seen by the reader many times throughout the play as Blanche belittles others and their possessions. Blanche’s critical comments of her sisters house makes the reader feel less sympathy for her early in the play. As Blanche greets her sister later, one of the first statements she makes is “Open your pretty mouth and talk while I look for some liquor!” This illustrates how insensitive and demandfull Blanche can be at times. It also shows that Blanche is clearly not the shy and timid young lady she tries to be later in the story. Blanche then shows that she is also hung-up on herself by asking Stella if she ....

Mindwalk: International Relations
330 Words - 2 Pages.... personalities will carry the film. Still furthermore when Jack, the failed
politician, and Thomas, a little-known poet, meet up with Sonya, a secluded
scientist, the movie takes a deep inner-look at the world.
As the three characters get to know one another, they begin to discuss
(actually debate) various topics about the world around them. As they all begin
to tell their side, it becomes clear why the author chose these characters.
Each has a very separate, very unique view on the subject he is trying to get
across: people's perception of the world.
As the day draws to a close, the three different viewpoints seem to
slowly diverge into a common thought: People need t ....

The Merchant Of Venice: Theme Of The Nature Of True Love
1075 Words - 4 Pages.... complexion has won him many
women and he is dressed in all white. The fact that he is, suggests that
he is only concerned with outward appearance, and not with more important
things such as true love. The Prince of Morocco's superficial nature
shines through even more clearly when it comes time to choose the casket.
He does not want to risk anything, and therefore; he does not choose the
lead casket whose inscription tells the suitor he must give up everything.
The Prince, after looking at the inscription of the gold casket, which read
"'who chooseth me shall gain what many men desire'" (2.7, 37), decides that
what he desires most is the Portia's hand so the gold must be t ....

Romeo And Juliet: Shakespeare's Metaphor Of Comparing Man To Plants
722 Words - 3 Pages.... by Mary Shelley.
Some critics believe that the “creature” was prone to evil from the onset, that
it was innately in his being, while others argue that the treatment the “
creature” received from humans pitted him against mankind into an evil and
revengeful state. Shakespeare, however, in his extended metaphor comparing man
to plants, holds the opinion that there is both decency and infamy in man. His
opinion can be compared to the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis
Stevenson, where Dr. Jekyll is innately pure and kind but because he tries to
hide the malicious side of his being, it eventually overcomes him completely.
Shakespeare wishes to addre ....

Death Of A Salesman: Willy's Suicide Is His Downfall
478 Words - 2 Pages.... how to be a successful person. In Willy’s mind success, respect, affection, and authority come to those who are liked by everyone not the studious people who others disliked. Willy is also disillusional in his American dream. He asks Bernard in Act 2, “What-what’s the secret”(1391). Willy wants to know the “key” to being successful. He does not understand that the “key” is to work hard to get what you want in life. His false values showed again when Biff stole a football from school and a whole case of them at the sporting goods store were he worked. Willy’s motto was that biff didn’t mean any harm. Willy even laughed when the boys stole lumber fro ....
