we believed in it." Then in the next line, Laurie accuses Jock of supporting
the rest of the committee in upholding the tradition not because he believed in

believed in it but the reason why you wouldn't let the Club buy players was to
stop me winning a flag."
However, Jock does support and use tradition when it is in agreement

Analysis Of The Movie Contact
826 Words - 4 Pages.... history: the moment of the
acquisition of technology. The moment when contact becomes possible." The
movie explores many aspects of making "contact" with aliens. It explores
the religious implications of such an event as well as the faith that one
has to have afterwards. It is ironic that Arroway falls back on faith to
believe her journey took place upon her return after having shunned faith
that others had in God before. The movie did not deal with the Cold War
politics that Sagan's book dealt with mainly because of the release date of
this movie. The movie was made well after the end of the Cold War and the
efforts to build a space pod for space travel is ....

The Use Of Symbols In Macbeth
451 Words - 2 Pages.... Macbeth,
and later drove Lady Macbeth to suicide.
If blood symbolized death, guilt, and pain, then surely water symbolized
cleansing and peace, and is used in this regard in many literary pieces. In
fact, even in the bible, Pontious Pilate washed his hands in water after
sentencing Jesus to be crucified. However, Macbeth mentions that all of the
water in the sea would turn red from the blood on his hands; which leads me to
the conclusion that blood was a much more powerful symbol than water in this
play.
In Macbeth, light and dark was used in a classic sense. Light
symbolized all that is good, and it is no coincidence that when a scene included
Banquo or another of ....

The Story Of Oedipus
451 Words - 2 Pages.... the attempted murder of his son, Oedipus,
and the kidnapping and rape of Chrysippus, a young man Laius fell in love with
before Jocasta. And Oedipus wasn't as guilty under ancient Greek law as he is
under our modern laws. It was every Greek's duty to harm his/her enemies, and
as far as Oedipus knew, King Laius was an enemy.
Queen Jocasta wasn't exactly guiltless, either. The great Queen had also
tried with King Laius to kill their son, and had no respect for the prophecies
of Apollo: "A prophet? Listen to me and learn some peace of mind: no skill in
the world, nothing human can penetrate the future." She was also the other half
of a mother-son marriage. Greek l ....

The Crucible: The Tragedy At Salem

At the time of the witch hunts, the Salemite's society was an
organized theocracy in which their Puritan church ruled. It was instilled
to ensure moral order and justice within Salem and "to prevent any disunity
that might open it to destruction by material or ideological
enemies"(Miller 7). While espousing purity and godliness, the Puritans of
Salem were a political group with leanings toward power and weakness. They
were unable to keep these two characteristics in check at the time of the
witch hunt. This resulted in the witch hunts becoming "a perverse
manifestation of the panic which set in among all classes when the balance
began to turn toward gr ....
