Dante's Peak
1154 Words - 5 Pages.... here in the Philippines.
But before we talk about volcanoes, what is a volcano? Here are some things I learned in my spine-tingling, exciting and fun-filled class of Nat Sci II!
What is a volcano?
When Volcanoes in the Cascade Range and Alaska erupt, they frequently do so explosively and produce pyroclastic flows, ash falls and "mud" or debris flows (lahars). According to the USGS, "Lahars destroyed houses, bridges, and logging trucks during the May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, and have inundated other valleys around Cascade volcanoes during prehistoric eruptions. Lahars at Nevado del Ruiz volcano, Colombia, in 1985, killed more than 23,000 people." Near a volcan ....

Infomercials And Other Dishonest Commercials
1129 Words - 5 Pages.... degree at home" commercial, honestly, how good
can that kind of degree be? Then as I kept flipping, I came across the
"psychic network of friends" advertisement, just as they were offering a
"free psychic reading to first time callers" all that was required
was that a certain 1-800 number be dialed and a person could get a reading.
Then to show that the reading was accurate, they had people come on and say
that their experience with the psychic was "life changing," and that "it
was so real…the psychic knew everything." It is amazing what people will
fall for in this day and age.
Info-mercials are basically half hour commercials that attempt to
sell products to wat ....

meeting she had previously with Hamlet. She tells her father that Hamlet came
to her disheveled and in a shaken state of mind, speaking of "horrors." (Act 2
Scene 2 line 94). Her father immediately believes that he is "Mad for thy
love?" (Act 2 Scene 2 line 95). Opelia answers a question posed by Polonius by
which she replied that she had told Hamlet that she could not see or communicate
with him any more. Her father makes reference to Hamlet's madness once again by
proclaiming that what his daughter said, "... hath made him (Hamlet) mad." (Act
2 Scene 2 line 123).
The argument of whether Hamlet is insane because of his love for ....

The Effects Of The Speeches Of Brutus And Antony
291 Words - 2 Pages.... to the assassination, felt that he should avenge Julius's death. He
delivered a speech that convinced the Romans that the murder was unjust,
invoking their rebellion. Brutus, head of the conspiracy, also gave a good
speech, but the Romans didn't react to it. A battle erupted, and most of the
conspirators committed suicide. The styles of the two speeches were very
different from each other.
Brutus's speech was logical. It contained facts about Caesar's ambition.
He reminded the people that Caesar would have become a tyrant and would have
enslaved everyone. Brutus also explained that he didn't hate Caesar, but that
he loved Rome more. The people didn't understa ....

The Crucible: John Proctor
452 Words - 2 Pages.... thought of as the vice of god and they were pure of blemishes.
Proctor also fought the court trying to keep them from convicting his spouse
even though nobody else would dare to do. Another quality that made him brave
was when he confessed to the court that he had an affair with Abigail just to
save his life.
That John Proctor is brave, is obvious but ha can also be very extreme
at some times. An instance of Proctor's extremity was when he shouted, "I say -
I say - God is dead!"(Pg. 119), and that he will see all of them burn in hell.
That statement implied to the court that Proctor worshipped the Devil and
committed perjury. When Proctor tore the warrant issued for the ar ....

represents the law that is controlling their fate in the white culture.
The director is also giving us many symbols or visual communication such
as the consistency of water in the film as well as, the overbearing control of
darkness. The film is shot in shadows and overall is very dark , almost forcing
us to look beyond the obvious plot and storyline and into the meaning or what
the film/director is trying to tell us. The darkness in the film can be seen as
unconsciousness. It can also be seen as a prediction of the darkness that will
occur in the world when the last wave comes. The last wave meaning a giant
tidal wave that will c ....

Comparing Washington And Macbeth: The Fate Of A Nation
487 Words - 2 Pages.... in the war against Britain. It was under his command that
the colonial militia emerged victorious against the British. However, in
defeating the British another threat to American democracy had been
released. This threat was Washington himself. Washington had the colonial
militia under his control. He could have easily performed a "coup d'état"
and seized control of the newly freed nation. However, Washington's
ambitions were not to become a dictator, or king. He believed that power
did not come from controlling others, but from the honor and respect that
was given to him. Washington knew that this power would only come from
subordination to civilian authority. ....

Analysis Of A Cartoon Regarding The Vietnam War
382 Words - 2 Pages.... goal was to contain communism.
The three heads represent the three communist countries, two of
which were super powers. One head represents Russia, definitely a
communistic super power, one head represents China, a communistic super
power of that time as well, and the third head represents Vietnam. This
was represented as a group of monolithic communists.
Another myth present was "Peace with Honor". This was President
Richard Nixon's slogan while negotiating with North Vietnam to withdraw
their troops. As the war went on and we continued to lose more and more
men, the American public wondered why we didn't just withdraw our men. The
American public saw this war goi ....
