Romeo And Juliet: Violence And Bloodshed
450 Words - 2 Pages.... scene, using a figure of speech and setting up a theme that will be played out the next five acts.
Like the poles of an electrical circuit between which runs the high voltage of emotions, love, and hate create a dialogue and dialectic, a dynamic tension which powers the action and generates heat.
When I noticed that the two plays this season had settings is Verona, I decided to find out a thing or two about the place. Reading the section on "climate" in Harold Rose's Yur Guide to Northern Italy, I noted that "Italy is a very hot place in the summer, also quite humid."
After reading this I then realized that a great deal of the violence in Romeo and Juliet become mor ....

Macbeth: Lady Macbeth And Evil
902 Words - 4 Pages.... are wrong. Lady
Macbeth entirely breaks the stereotype of women being kind and benevolant in the
first act. After Macbeth writes home telling of his murderous plans, Lady
Macbeth begins talking to evil spirits. Because women often lack the
ruthlessness to kill someone, Lady Macbeth asks the spirits to make her male.
One of the most vivid descriptions of Lady Macbeth's wickedness is directly
after Macbeth announces to her he does not want to kill Duncan. This speech
epitomizes Lady Macbeth's evilness. She is ruthless, and her evil accounts for
the murders that occur throughout the play Macbeth.
Lady Macbeth is far more savage and ambitious than her husband, yet she
convinces ....

You, was made into a movie recently. The movie was Screamers, starring Peter
Weller. He has also had two of his novels, We Can Remember It for You
Wholesale (Total Recall), Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Blade Runner),
made into movies. Of the two, Blade Runner (B.R.) has had the greatest impact.
B.R., however, differs greatly from Dicks' original novel, Do Androids Dream of
Electric Sheep? (D.A.D.O.E.S.)
Blade Runner was released in 1982 under the direction of Ridley Scott,
who also made another sci-fi classic, Alien.
The film begins in the city o ....

Henry IV: Hotspur Vs. Harry

Northumberland for having such a son:
'a son who is the theme of honours tongue'.
' in envy that my Lord Northumberland should
be father to so blest a son'.
The King feels that Hotspur reminds him of himself, when he challenged Richard
for the throne. Hotspur is brave and valiant and has a good reputation with the
people, whereas Hal compared with Richard does not care for the welfare of the
country and spends his time entertaining himself with poor company.
Hotspur has nothing but disrespect for Hal. During the play he calls him:
'the madcap Prince of Wales'.
He thinks of Hal as an unworthy opponent. From Hotspur's point of view the only

Suffering In Shakespeare's Plays
1882 Words - 7 Pages.... that he has lost the love of his favorite daughter
Cordelia, and he feels the harsh hatred of his two evil daughters. At the
conclusion of the play, his sanity is restored but he has suffered tremendously
in an emotional manner at the hands of Regan and Goneril. In Othello, Brabantio
goes through emotional suffering when he must succumb to his daughter's wishes.
Desdemona also goes through emotional suffering when she is accused by Othello
of cheating on him when he is convinced of this by Iago.
In The Tempest, the theme of purification through suffering can
clearly be seen. Prospero, in his long exile from Milan, has more than attoned

Compare And Contrast: Oedipus And Othello
1018 Words - 4 Pages.... on a thrust stage, which is a platform
surrounded on three sides by the audience. Except for the backdrop which
would have some element of scenery, the stage itself would be bare apart
from a few scenic elements and props. Othello, like most of Shakespeare's
plays, had what is called an abstract setting. That is a setting in which
the locale may change rapidly, it may not be indicated by the script that
it has changed, and was most likely suggested by a few props. Abstract
settings place more emphasis on the language and the performer, which
causes the spectator to use their imagination. It also places more
emphasis on costuming. This type of setting helped set up ....

The Tempest: Bringing It All Together
580 Words - 3 Pages.... many years ago. Prospero then
says something a little strange, but it makes sense in the context of the story,
he ask us to "release [him] from [his] bands with the help of your good hands."
In other words, clap so that the sails of the boats his friends are riding in
will be safely returned and Prospero can be "relieved by prayer" of the
audience.
All of what Prospero has said is very nice cute, but the most
interesting part of this monologue is what Shakespeare himself is saying. "Now
that my charms are all o'erthrown, and what strength I have's mine own" means,
now my plays are over, and it's no longer my characters speaking. The
"Island" or stage Shakespeare is on is ....

Elements Of Masque In The Tempest
1036 Words - 4 Pages.... a "quaint device" to make it vanish, and also makes extensive use of costume, dance and music, as the spirits enter in the form of shapeless creatures and Ariel is the form of a harpy. The masque within the play in Act IV requires elaborate costumes for the goddesses and, ideally, machinery for Juno to descend as deus ex machina with. It also involves great amounts of song and dance. The entire play makes extensive use of music, with Ariel's songs and Prospero's charms as well as the "sweet airs" of the island itself. Being non-human, Caliban, Ariel and the spirits require elaborate costume to make them appear so, and the court party members are decked in their finest c ....
