Overpopulation?
853 Words - 4 Pages.... at night, unprotected, the World is seeing an enormous child-birth rate. There are also people who choose to have more and more children, seeking them out of love, with good intentions, but not realizing the problems they're causing.
World energy needs are projected to double in the next several decades, but no credible geologist foresees a doubling of world oil production, which is projected to peak with in the next few decades.
While protein demands are projected to also double in the century ahead, no respected marine biologist expects the oceanic fish catch, which has plateaued over the last decade, to double. The world's oceans are being pushed beyond the breaking ....

Stereotyping Of Teenagers
716 Words - 3 Pages.... or gender; accepting a person
who just chooses to dress and look differently would be easy. As I have
found, such is not the case. Discrimination towards teenagers, especially
the ones who chose to dress differently, is a problem. It is a problem
that goes very often un-addressed.
There are plenty of stereotypes, but I believe the one that is
believed the most is what the stereotypical teenage "freak" is.
Constantly people assume, just by looking at me, a lot of different things.
I was surprised to find the number of people who just figured I was into
drugs. I couldn't believe it. Apparently, because I choose to dress
differently, I must be trashed all the ....

Minstrels
745 Words - 3 Pages.... were primarily singers and musicians. These wandering
performers were also story tellers, jugglers, clowns, and tumblers. Often
minstrels were an important part of prominent house holds providing
entertainment for the upper class of society. Those minstrels who were not part
of a noble's homestead, traveled from town to town providing entertainment not
only to noble classes but also to common village folk as well.
There were not many forms of entertainment, nor was there a means for
people to learn about news events. There was no television or radio in medieval
times. Even books were very scarce. Minstrels served to entertain the public.
They made up songs, sto ....

Images In Advertising
930 Words - 4 Pages.... by this advertising. This image is embedded inside our heads that the hourglass body, blonde hair and even the perfect smile are what it takes to be successful and likable in this world. Cosmetic purchases have vastly risen to an all-time high due to this false idea. Cosmetic surgery, which alters your looks to mimic someone else’s, is also in high demand. Why would you want to look like someone you do not even know?
When advertising a diet drink, the commercial shows you a slim, fit person that is the perfect height and weight. Society is led to believe that we will transform into a supermodel if we obtain this same beverage. Sadly, this will not occur because the b ....

Rights, Responsibilities, And Growing-up
394 Words - 2 Pages.... after a tragedy involving young people with firearms, President Clinton proclaimed, “A gun in the hands of a young person is a crime or accident waiting to happen.” Now, no matter how much publicity he got from saying that, it doesn’t reflect reality.
I’d like to remind our president, with a father or uncle, older brother, or friend, that “A gun in the hands of a young person” is probably the most effective tool available for teaching personnel responsibility, sportsmanship, safety, ethics of hunting, and the achievement of marksmanship, and much more. For many young people being allowed to own a firearm is a maturing experience. For example, the trust given ....

Immigration: Pro
1097 Words - 4 Pages.... with the
expulsion of aliens in the United States. Another landmark case was the
notorious Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. That clause revoked all Chinese
immigrants to emigrate to the States for a period of ten years. It is so
infamous due to the fact that it was the first bill that discriminated against
any one particular race. Restrictions on immigration may seem to have been
eradicated from current history but that is an oversight. Even in the
"politically correct" society we live in today allows for these discrepancies,
for in the Immigration Act of 1990 which brought up controls for immigration.
Behind all these legal documents there are reasons that spurred these ....

Why Athletes Are Good Role Models
1481 Words - 6 Pages.... reporting all of
the good things that these people do, just the bad things and their mistakes.
They are only human just like the rest of us. Are these people safe for our
children to idolize to look up to? I think that the answer is YES!
If you were watching the news, would you really want to hear about all
of the charities that an athlete has donated money to? It would be interesting
at first, but you would get tired of it afterwards. That is why the media never
covers anything like this. We all know that they really don't care about
anything else except for a hot topic. The truth really does not mean anything
to them. This we notice in all the cases that the ....

Christmas, Retailers, And The Santa Claus Conspiracy
975 Words - 4 Pages.... house
decorations on the block, or having a hairy old fat man in red underwear
arrested for putting their child on his lap and whispering to them to tell him
what they "really" want (strangely enough there are some parents out there who
actually pay money each year to have this abuse inflicted upon their children).
The whole idea of Santa Claus is one of the scariest I've come across
and yet we embrace it. The entire story sounds like something you should
threaten your kid with if he doesn't want to eat his veggies. As I understand
it he's supposed to be a fat man wearing red underwear who is capable of sliding
down your chimney unharmed in order to quietly slip into you ....
