.... the island's work force of 1,500 people. This is just one company in Canada which helps limiting our forests. There are many other corporations that contribute in the mass enterprise. These corporations cause large clear cuts in Canada today that would have been all forests some years ago. It is well known that the decrements of the forests will leave us without trees in the next few decades. Personal Writing: Museum Of Tolerance
833 Words - 4 Pages

.... parking garage I began to feel nervous of what I might see. We walked into the building and bought our tickets, we got the student discount. Our tour time would be at 1:15. To waste a little time we decided to walk around a little and look at the displays. There were many Jewish items that I had never seen before but Coley pointed out most of them and explained what they were and what they were used for. It didn't take very long for our tour guide to show up and lead us to the main tour. There was a short, maybe 15 minute tour with a tour guide, then a two and a half hour audio tour. The tour guide led us to two doors and told us to choose one. Above each door was a la ....

.... first test to move up to yellow belt, it was very easy for me. I felt like I was a brick wall, and that no one my size could defeat me. I started to get better and my teacher was training harder with me each day we had class. He told me if I worked at the rate he was teaching me, I'd be able to compete in the Olympics at the age of sixteen. My first chance to show my friends and family that I was good at karate was in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in a public school. I was so nervous about this tournament I felt sick. Well it was my time to shine, and shine I did. In the peewee division for my first event I had to display my form. I did every step of my form so pr ....

Down With Community Service
464 Words - 2 Pages

.... rather than a privilege to citizens. He said that people should not do work that they do not get paid for, unless they really wanted to. This is one of the reasons that supports my disagreement to the article. Most young people do not have enough extra time to do community service. I have been doing a survey about the subject matter for a few days, and I have come up with some interesting results. It seems that eight out of ten students that are about to graduate high school are planning to go to college after they graduate. I also asked them about doing community service. Most of them said that they would be getting a job, and they would not have time to do commu ....

I called him once or twice, but we were unable to get together. When I entered grade ten, I found I was making more new friends, forgetting about Fred. Portrait Of A Dancer
1064 Words - 4 Pages

.... or taking a nap on the brand new, sweet smelling leather couch. Although I had learned to feel comfortable in the house, that afternoon I had needed to get out. I craved some fresh air and peace. These family gatherings were then, as they still are for me today, emotionally exhausting. Each member of this close-knit, loving group had an iron will and strong opinions. No one was willing to remain quiet, not even to keep the often fragile peace at these reunions. I was just as guilty as the others. At least our dinner table talk was never boring! It certainly would not be tonight. Because I was determined that this would be the night that I would tell my grandfather that I want ....

Creative Writing: The Nightmare

.... problems with her telephone. There must have been something wrong with the connection because when it rang there would be no one on the other end. Someone was coming tomorrow to take a look at it. Mr. and Mrs. Smith informed us that they would be a little late coming home because it was their anniversary and they had a long night planned. We told them to have a nice time and they both grabbed their coats and left. Julie started crying just as they closed the door. We gave her a bottle and put her down to watch some TV. Then the phone rang and Susan and I looked at each other, seeing who was going to answer it. I answered the phone but no one was there. I said hel ....

Personal Writing: Response To My Visit To The Boott Cotton Mill
998 Words - 4 Pages

.... I was really surprised, I expected to see something like an industrial plant of today. Once inside I realized that this was more of a museum than an industrial plant. The entrance had hardwood floors and was quite modern. From there I went to the entrance of the Weave Room. The most interesting part of this exhibit was the pictures and quotations located outside the Weave Room. Throughout the building, all the pictures with people in them, nobody had a smile on their face. That solidified the impression I had that people weren't happy working in the mills. The quotations from former mill workers also exhibited their unhappiness. Grace May Burk, a former mill worker ....
