Wise Blood: Whose Deformity Is The Most Serious
1050 Words - 4 Pages.... severe mental disfigurements lead to his
rather odd physical deformities. Enoch is driven by two distinct elements:
his instincts and his desire to be accepted into civilization. These two
factors attribute most to his defects. His intuition causes him to believe

his blood, he often takes things too literally. For instance, Hazel Motes
preaches that his religion desperately needs a new Jesus, and Enoch,
perceiving this Jesus to be an actual being, follows his instincts and
brings Hazel a three-foot shrunken man whom he honestly believes to be the
savior. Before actually donating the messia ....

Pride And Prejudice: Elizabeth Bennet
1728 Words - 7 Pages.... social norms face the danger of never finding
their place in life nor ever finding personal happiness.
Elizabeth Bennet is a person worthy of our imitation. She is a

society, "where the family and the community...tend to coerce and even
predetermine the volition and aspirations of the self"(Tanner 125). She is
self-reliant and independent, while "contemptuous of all the conventions
that restrict the individual's freedom"(Litz 65). Darcy observes Elizabeth
as "...sick of civility, of deference, of officious attention. ....

Another example of their maturity is how they view people. When Scout and Jem see how Tom Robinson is treated just because he is black, they begin to understand the meaning of prejudice. The people who have not been forced to look into the eyes of a dying comrade, whose legs have torn off due to the shrapnel of a mortar, can not sympathize with the broken hearts of the soldiers. Critic On Huckleberry Finn
332 Words - 2 Pages.... time between 1835s- 50s. This meant that during Huck's time, slavery was still around and most whites during this time do not like blacks. The N- word just literally show us what white people think of blacks at that time. They use this wor! d to verbally express their feelings. However, I am not trying to say that Huck calls Jim a N- because he does not like him. He probably picked it up from other people (adults). Besides this "vulgarity" as An Lew has put it, this book in my eyes is a perfectly good reading book for young people. It is exciting, adventurous, and realistic. Most of the N- words are used by Huck and as you see of their relationship together, you know ....
