All of his coworkers looked upon him as a perfect individual, never falling under the category of fallible. In addition to wealth, he wants to overcame his father’s failures and achieve great prosperity and even greater reputation among the people of Umofia. Therefore, his desire for titles and respect makes him one outspoken leader of the village taking responsibil ....

.... uses great detail in describing the way the people were acting. He states that "the people came in like Christian civilization and went out like barbarians" (pg. 70). Cory witnesses that most of the people just ran out and didn't care about who was getting attacked by the bees or who might be hurt. Cory loses a lot of respect for his grandfather when he realized that he left everyone for his own safety. This taught Cory that people cared more about themselves before anyone else's safety. The author uses magical realism many times throughout the novel. When Cory and his friends do their annual ritual at the end of the summer, they pretend to fly with their dogs (pg. 187) ....

.... voted on a chief. Ralph became the leader and he made Jack the leader of a group that would be in charge of hunting and maintaining a fire. Giving Jack this power was Ralph's first mistake as chief. However things went along smoothly, rules were set and abided by. All of the boys agreed to give the conch shell some power by only speaking when they were holding the shell in their hands. This power was personified by the statement “By the time Ralph had finished blowing the conch the platform was crowded.” Which shows how even early on, the group let the conch shell have power. The assembly moved towards dictatorship when Jack started to discredit Ralph and the conch ....

Sophocles took their beliefs and used the Oedipus Trilogy to explore the irony of how the Fates work more closely. The Oedipus plays are separated into three main plays: Oedipus Rex (The King), Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone. The story starts in Oedipus Rex, and the city of Thebes in which he is ruler is in plague. The city calls upon the ruler Oedipus to find a way to stop the plague.
