Race And Othello
570 Words - 3 Pages.... than the person under the skin.
There are many references in the play to indicate that Othello was dark colored. The first image we, as a reader, are given of Othello is that of a black ram having sexual relations with Desdemona. Iago’s line reads “Even now, now, very now, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe” (1.1.88-90). Later on in the play, there are many other references to Othello's color and race. Desdemona's father, Brabantio, is appalled to learn that his daughter is having a relationship with a “sooty bosom” (2.3.27). Emilia refers to Othello as a black devil (5.2.132). This scene does not suggest that Emilia is racist in any way. She most likely wa ....

Exploring Sexuality In "Taming Of The Shrew"
1284 Words - 5 Pages.... none of them could desire
Kate. "Mates, maid? How mean you that? No mates for you unless you were of a
gentler, milder, mold" (I,i, lines 58 - 60). From this it is clear that the men
in the play prefer a better "mold" than Kate, in other words, she does not carry
herself as well as Bianca. Kate does not play the coy flirting games, and is
therefore thought of as harsher than Bianca.
Bianca, however, knows how to be flirtatious, witty, and coy around her
admirers, and yet is almost intentionally mean to Kate. For instance, Bianca
knows that it hurts Kate to have no suitors while she (Bianca) has several.
Bianca uses this to hurt Kate. When Kate tries to find out wh ....

King Lear: A Shakespearean Tragedy
1189 Words - 5 Pages.... The play also depicts the troubled parts in his life and
eventually his death that is instantaneous caused by the suffering and

possesses a tragic flaw that initiates the tragedy. The fall of the hero
is not felt by him alone but creates a chain reaction which affects
everything below him. There must also be the element of chance or accident
that influences some point in the play.

On the other end of the revenge spectrum is Laertes. As soon as Laertes hears of his father Polonius's murder, the rampageous son rushes back to Denmark and, with a crowd of followers, burst into the castle prepared to kill his father's murderer. Laertes, in great contrast to Hamlet, takes immediate action.
Finally, Fortinbras represents the middle path of revenge. He does not miss the knock of opportunity because of over analysis, nor does he act too swiftly to realize whom he should attack. In the end of the play, Fortinbras arrives just as everyone is dying and does not have to exert a great deal of strength to accomplish his task because the others ....
