the negative attention. She said “It might start women thinking; and men to;
when men and women think about a new question they the first step is taken.
Because of their involvement in the abolitionist movement, women had
learned to organize, to hold public meetings, and conduct petition campaigns.
As abolitionists, women first won the right to speak in public, and they began
to evolve a philosophy of their own place in society. When the 15th amendment,
which gave black men the power to vote, was passed women became furious. Julia
Ward Howe said “For the first time, we saw ....

Feminism And Gender Equality In The 1990's
2035 Words - 8 Pages.... in the nineties with Betty Friedan's, in her
essay: The Way We Were - 1949. She dealt with a society that expected
women to fulfill certain roles. Those roles completely disregarded the
needs of educated and motivated business women and scientific women.
Actually, the subtle message that society gave was that the educated woman
was actually selfish and evil.
I remember in particular the searing effect on me, who once intended to be
a psychologist, of a story in McCall's in December 1949 called "A Weekend
with Daddy." A little girl who lives a lonely life with her mother,
divorced, an intellectual know-it-all psychologist, goes to the country to
spend a weekend with her fat ....

Violence
856 Words - 4 Pages.... to 1995, drug use among
teenagers almost doubled. Drugs and alcohol are both mind altering agents which
cause people to do things that they would not normally do or intensify the
emotions that they feel. I believe that many violent acts are due to people
being under the influence of some type of narcotic or alcohol.
In a survey conducted in the University of Tennessee for the Department
of Health, the effects of drug abuse on violence were studied. It was found
that almost 56% of drinkers also used drugs while drinking. Interestingly,
white males were found to be more abusive than black males. The study showed
direct links from substance abuse to violence and crime. ....

Sex In Black, White And Mulatto
1647 Words - 6 Pages.... or rape.
There were no laws present in America at this time protecting
female slaves against the sexual advances of their masters.1 Slave owners
then had the opportunity to take advantage of their slaves without having
to worry of prosecution. Without laws that would allow these enslaved women
to resist, there is a presumption then that they were always willing to
oblige to their master's requests for sex.2 This, of course, is not true.
Not all slave women were so compelled to give into their owner's demands.
For some slaves the only way they could resist the advances of an
oncoming sexual predator was through resistance. Such an example is Jermain
Loguen's mother. W ....

Juvenile Delinquency
975 Words - 4 Pages.... offenders, rather than to punish them.
But the term juvenile delinquency itself has come to imply disgrace in today's
society. A youngster can be labeled a delinquent for breaking any one of a
number of laws, ranging from robbery to running away from home. But an action
for which a youth may be declared a delinquent in one community may not be
against the law in another community. In some communities, the police ignore
many children who are accused of minor delinquencies or refer them directly to
their parents. But in other communities, the police may refer such children to
a juvenile court, where they may officially be declared delinquents. Crime
statistics, though they ....

By looking at both sides very carefully, both for and agaisnt animal testing can one make their own opinion on what they feel is right and wrong.
Many will say that the use of animals for testing is both inhumane and should not be allowed as an effective way to test products such as cosmetics and laundry detergents for our homes. There are many reasons as to why the an ....
