Importance Of Priority In Today's Society
534 Words - 2 Pages.... shield trying to prevent this situation from happening. What needs to
happen is, every person on this earth out of the many billions that there are,
needs to take responsibility of his/her actions.
Chaos, mayhem, disturbance, turmoil, pandemonium, uproar. Is this what
we want in our world today? Although people are afraid to say it, it is obvious
that if we all do not think before we do things, these events that I described
could occur in the near future.
Many people are in belief that chaos, mayhem, and even anarchy will not
occur in their lifetimes. And most possibly what they think is true, but they
don't show helpfulness towards they younger generations. By m ....

I mean, who does the right thing when nobody cares if you don't? Now take
myself, I have had more than my fare share of nagging in my time. How do you
know? Well, everything I am was shaped by my mother. She is an epitome of
understanding, a wealth of knowledge and of course I have inherited the other
traits like beauty and genetic perfection.
I know I certainly hate being nagged. If my mum gets on my nerves I'd say just
about anything to shut her up sometimes.
Have a look at Josephine in the novel "Looking for Alibrandi" and compare her to
her mother. Jose may absolutely hate her mother sometimes but at others be

"Please Let Us Skate"
489 Words - 2 Pages.... unless something is done about the
places where skaters are allowed to skate. There are many places where cycling
is allowed but where skating is not allowed. Why is this? Maybe it is because
people here don't feel that we skaters deserve the right any cyclists, or
anything on wheels, have. All we ask for is a decent place to skate where we
wouldn't have our rights denied.
I have been skating for two and a half years now. Until recently, I have
started to skate with a couple of my friends whenever we have the time to. There
has never been a time where we haven't been stopped and kicked out. This has
been very irritating for us and we still don't understand why we're ....

Affirmative Action Today
1399 Words - 6 Pages.... effort that requires and measures minority representation. As a result, affirmative action has produced undesirable problems in the American culture.
The term "affirmative action" was first used in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. He signed Executive Order 10925 that stated "the contractor will take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during their employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin" (qtd. in Hall 898). In 1954, the Brown decision [Brown v. Board of Education] required racial desegregation in schools and other public places. The Brown decision led to "the enactment of the 1 ....

Is Monogamy The Best Form Of Marriage?
569 Words - 3 Pages.... the most important aspect in a marriage.
The Western Religious leaders and moralists believe only one spouse for life is the highest form of marriage. Some of the most "primitive" peoples are strictly monogamous in their ideals, while some "highly advanced" cultures have moved away from the strict life-long monogamy. Sociologists, Ford and Beech, have found that only twenty-nine of the one-hundred and eighty-five contemporary cultures studied, less than sixteen percent restrict men and women to a single partner for life. However, less than one-third of the twenty-nine monogamous cultures completely disapprove of both premarital and extramarital relations (Francouer 72). ....

The Politics Of Homelessness
2107 Words - 8 Pages.... don't have a home. Their message appeals to some people's feelings of guilt for having received more than they deserve. To do this, they must make people feel vulnerable. They must get people to think that the same thing could happen to them if they do not show pity for those less fortunate. (Not exactly the proper motivation, but it will do if they get the required results.) Once we buy into this image of the homeless, the solution should be easy for us to see: simply build more shelters and public housing. To the extreme right are those that say the homeless have only themselves to blame. Their position is that regardless of why people become homeless, they have th ....

Gangs
1525 Words - 6 Pages.... of the media, the government,
theatre, drugs and our economic system.
On the surface, gangs are caused by peer pressure and greed. Many
teens in gangs will pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making
it all sound glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10
year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to
$400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors
they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against
their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence
becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The
average ch ....

Garrett Hardin In "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against The Poor"
863 Words - 4 Pages.... I am tired of the United States of America giving my money to the poor
countries. The government is giving these people my money for which I worked
hard. The government does not ask for my permission to give these people my
money. By letting these people on our lifeboat the government is drowning us all.
"If we do let an extra 10 people in our lifeboat, we will have lost our 'safety
factor,' an engineering principle of critical importance" (page 757). I cannot
take a chance in helping people if it is going to put me in risk.
Instead of giving the money to non Americans it should be used only in
America. The money used to help the poorer countries can be very useful ....
