Cheating
180 Words - 1 Pages.... You should be honorable enough to take a
bad grade and admit that you don't know everything.
When you cheat in school, you are just getting by, you aren't
actually learning. Later in life, this can really hurt you. When you grow
up and have a job, there will be no one to copy. None of the good
employers will want you if you can't do good work -- and that means
undesirable, dead-end, jobs like flipping burgers.
Cheating is also dishonest and dishonorable to yourself and other
people. It will cause you to lose your self respect and the respect of
others. Cheaters never really win, they only fool themselves.
For these reasons, I believe that cheating is a terri ....

Selfishness
388 Words - 2 Pages.... selfish I have never thought about. When a friend or a relative cares for someone close to them, you can actually look at it as though they only do it because they receive pleasure from helping that person out. You can look at it the same way towards people who help the homeless or give to charity. The main reason they help is really for the satisfaction that they receive out of helping.
, however, in my opinion is too harsh of a word to use for these actions. I mean absolutely everyone seeks happiness and satisfaction in everything they do and therefore it is just human nature to act this way. is a term that can be used to describe people who do things only for themsel ....

Use Of Paralanguage And Kinesics In Everyday Life
2241 Words - 9 Pages.... is articulation of
the body, or movement resulting from muscular and skeletal shift. This includes
all actions, physical or physiological, automatic reflexes, posture, facial
expressions, gestures, and other body movements. Body language, body idiom,
gesture language, organ language and kinesic acts are just some terms used to
depict kinesics. In ways that body language works in nonverbal acts, body
language parallels paralanguage. Kinesic acts may substitute for language,
accompany it, or modify it. Kinesic acts may be lexical or informative and
directive in nature, or they may be emotive or empathic movements. Posture is
one of the components of kinesics. Posture is ....

Tobacco Companies Targeting Young People
537 Words - 2 Pages.... uses Joe
Camel, a hip cartoon character. Everywhere you go there is billboards or some
other kind of advertisement on these two shady characters. When I say shady, I
imply that these characters are not just figures we see but they are traps just
waiting to lure the next victim in. As kids look through magazines and see Joe
Camel driving a cool car and surrounded by beautiful women they get the idea
that in order to be somebody they need to smoke a Camel cigarette. It is not
right to prey on young people just because they are unaware of the dangers of
smoking.
The tobacco industry denies that these symbols target people less than
21 and claim that their advertising goal ....

Virtues That Change Society In The Future
755 Words - 3 Pages.... better and also more efficient intellectuals. As a result the society as a whole would greatly benefit.
How can a list of thirteen virtues change society in the future? After a brief overview of the list I was not impressed. Maybe these would apply to Franklin's day but not to the twentieth century. With a few subtractions and additions the list of virtues may be a helpful tool in any persons life.
Temperance is first on the list and is the most important of the virtues. As Franklin states, some associate temperance with eating and drinking, but this was not Franklin's intention. "Temperance first, as it tends to procure that coolness and clearness of head, which is so neces ....

Media Violence
844 Words - 4 Pages.... bland and in need of violence. The children then can create the violence that their mind craves (Door 127).
Another thing that increases the risk of violence is watching another person praising it. Parents who solve their problems with violence are teaching their children to do the same. Barbara Escamilla, an Omaha counselor and social worker, said, "Fathers who laugh and cheer at violent action movies are condoning such actions...." Another counselor from Omaha said, "If a kid hears his dad laughing about having beat somebody up when he was 13, then that father is creating an underlying philosophy in the family." Joseph Stankus, an Omaha psychologist, said, "If sombody ....

Body Modification In Today’s Society
2384 Words - 9 Pages.... bodies do so for many reasons. Some say it’s simply exciting and pleasurable, or part of the latest fad. Others place it in the context of art, ritual or self-expression—they say it’s an act with cultural and social significance. In contrast, many people can’t understand why someone would choose to put so many holes in her body or cut their skin. They see body modification as self-destructive, much like anorexia or bulimia. I am a prime example of youth urge toward body modification. Below I will talk about why, what, where, and how people modify their body and how people look upon them.
Youth and adolescence is one of, if not the most, significant and influential ....

Life Outside Our Biosphere
909 Words - 4 Pages.... area, and will help solve
problems associated with overcrowding.
In our solar system, a few planetic possibilities exist for colonization.
Mars, one of our closest neighbors, was previously a prime choice until it was
explored more in depth. Scientists have now found it to be a red, rocky, barren
desert with little atmosphere, no water, and containing no life. If Earthlings
were to settle on Mars, we would remain totally dependent on the Earth's
resources.
Another close planet is Venus, the second from the sun. This "sister
planet" of Earth proved to have extremely hostile conditions. Scientists were
hopeful when they found traces of water vapor in the upper atmo ....
