Bang, The Life Cycle Begins
237 Words - 1 Pages.... its limit. Then all matter and energy will condense back to a single, inconceivably dense point concluding the life of the universe. You would think of this as the end, but only an explosion is needed to wake up and give life to a new universe. Therefore, trapped forever in the cycle of rebirth.
As humans we also travel through a cycle of rebirth according to the Hindu religion. We are all trapped on the Wheel of Samsara trying to break free. It is only possible to escape through the laws of Karma. Karma is simply how you act in this life determines what you are after your rebirth. For example, if you live each life being the best Hindu you possible can eventu ....

Klinefelter Syndrome -
930 Words - 4 Pages.... The person with Klinefelter Syndrome is a male who, because of this chromosome variation, has a hormone imbalance. While Dr. Harry Klinefelter accurately described this condition in 1942, it was not until 1956 that other researchers reported that many boys with this description had 47 chromosomes in each cell of their bodies instead of the usual number of 46. This extra sex (X) chromosome causes the distinctive make-up of these boys. All men have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome, but sometimes a variation will result in a male with an extra X. This is Klinefelter Syndrome and is often written as 47,XXY. There are other, less common variations such as 48,XXYY; 48,XXX ....

False Memory Syndrome
804 Words - 3 Pages.... Bits and pieces of an experience are parcelled out to different regions of the brain, memories then settle in the auditory cortex, and memories of its appearance into the visual cortex. Its here in the limbic system they assemble all these memories, gathering them into a cohesive whole. False memories are also commonly in the con drum called "source amnesia". Thanks to the brain's frontal lobes, most people can distinguish the memory of a dream and a real life event. But if the frontal lobes are damaged, people cannot remember where a memory came from. These people retrieve bits of memory and can't remember where they came from and could be remembering a dream. Sour ....

Artificial Life
648 Words - 3 Pages.... and the Santa Fe
Institute. Langdon organized the first experimental workshop on the subject
at Santa Fe in 1987. Since then other a-life conferences have taken place,
drawing increasingly wider attention and a growing number of participants.
Theoretical studies of a-life, however, had been in progress long before
the 1980s. Most notably, the Hungarian-born U.S. mathematician John VON
NEUMANN, one of the pioneers of computer science, had begun to explore the
nature of very basic a-life formats called cellular automata (see AUTOMATA,
THEORY OF) in the 1950s. Cellular automata are imaginary mathematical
"cells" --analogous to checkerboard squares--that can be made to si ....

Genetic Engineering
1111 Words - 5 Pages.... engineering is a
fundamental tool for leading the world of medicine into the future; therefore,
it is crucial to continue research in this field.
Today's research in genetic engineering is bringing about new methods for curing
and treating major medical illnesses. The Human Genome Project has allowed
geneticists to map the genes of human beings. This project is far from complete,
as the DNA sequence of humans is extremely long, yet it will eventually show
geneticists which genes are responsible for certain inherited diseases.
Identified genes could be repaired, resulting in the irradiation of inherited
diseases, such as cancer. Just last year, the locations of genes for ....

Earthquakes 2
526 Words - 2 Pages.... and about 35 cause minor damage. The remaining 15, however, can take great tolls in death and suffering.
When an earthquake occurs, the earth's crust breaks along a surface known as a fault plane. Faults are not always visible at the surface of the earth. A fault is a fracture within a rocky mass within the earth's crust. The depth and the length of faults vary tremendously. Earthquakes are caused by faults that are active. An active fault is a fault along which the two sides of the fracture move with respect to each other. An earthquake is caused by the sudden movement of the two sides of the fault.
Faults are divided into three main groups, depending on how th ....

Apollo 4
1112 Words - 5 Pages.... was a metal door with a sharp edge. Each time
the door was open and shut, it scraped against an environmental control unit
wire. The repeated abrasion had exposed two tiny sections of wire. A spark
alone would not cause a fire, but just below the cuts in the cable was a length
of aluminum tubing, which took a ninety-degree turn. There were hundreds of
these turns in the whole capsule. The aluminum tubing carried a glycol cooling
fluid, which is not flammable, but when exposed to air it turns to flammable
fumes. The capsule was filled with pure oxygen in an effort to allow the
astronauts to work more efficiently. It also turns normally not so flammable
items to highly f ....

Coyote
897 Words - 4 Pages.... he calls, invigorated species (Gilbert, 1991, p. 69). These are animal types that are doing better than ever before in categories such as reproductive rates and widespread distribution. Gilbert offers a similar explanation as to why the is the most prolific of the invigorated species.
Often s and many other invigorated species are referred to as "generalists." This has to do mainly with how and what they eat. In this respect, few other creatures have such catholic tastes or more ingenious methods of satisfying them as have s (Gilbert, 1991, p. 69).
The list of what exactly the consumes is quite extensive. Eighty percent of their diet is rodents. However, they wil ....
