.... Bellingham’s extravagant house shows the hypocrisy of the Puritans. They seek to punish those, like Hester, who break the laws of Puritan society but at the same time they too violate their own laws. The Puritans can not see the faults within themselves. Puritan society is seen as a place where “iniquity is searched out, and punished in the sight of rulers and people.” (pg. 58) The Puritans pride themselves on the uniform goodness of their town and their ways of dealing with sinful dissenters. Hester’s public appearance is seen as a blessing on the “righteous Colony of Massachusetts.” (pg. 50) The Puritans see their society as picturesque and proper. To ....

.... but maybe not even seen as criminal today. As for punishment, a sentence to wear a scarlet "A" upon her chest, it would hardly be considered a burden or extreme sentence in present day. Or Hester can be seen as rebelling against a society where she was forced into a loveless marriage and hence she would be the "good guy," or girl, as the case may be. Also the townspeople, the magistrates, and Chillingworth, Hester's true husband, can be seen in both lights. Either they can be perceived as just upholding the law -she committed a crime, they enforce the law. On the other hand are they going to extreme measures such as wanting to take Pearl, Hester's daughter, away just becaus ....

.... boy into an outcast from hell. He looks into his mirror and sees himself, becomes shaken, reforms. From Pancho's employer, Franklin Gomez, we get a cold hard look into society. We see a mother, knowing her son is to be hated and feared, and perhaps possibly killed, cannot face killing her son with her bare hands. She leaves the killing to exposure to the elements, enying herself a look into Tularecito. Franklin adopts Pancho's demon, and Tularecito transforms into a disadvantaged who has been gifted with talent. Tularecito becomes a man at the age of six, "The boy grew rapidly, but after the fifth year his brain did not grow any more," To Franklin, Tularecito is grace, and ....

.... bus fell in it and the kids never got splashed again. In the novel papa took a risk not because he thought he had to but he did it out of love. Many white people were gathered together and about to hang TJ because RW and Melvin framed him for robbing a store. Out of love for TJ Papa set the cotton field on fire to set up a distraction. The distraction worked but the novel isn’t clear on saying exactly if he lives or dies, but I think it leads more towards to TJ dying. Many risks were taken in this novel. Almost every character took a risk some of the risks came out positive and some came out negatively. I think papa and TJ’s risks were the biggest in the novel. ....

.... fan questioning it consistency. Bill James, in his Historical Baseball Abstract, makes very clear the underlying problems with making a movie about the Black Sox Scandal. James, as well as many others, feels as though the problems with making a movie about that topic is that it engages the emotions of the audience. He points out that, "Unlike a book, a movie is more of something you experience than learn about, and as such, for a movie to work, one must, as a viewer, share in the experience of one of the characters" (pg.108). Since this story is about ballplayers who threw games and accepted bribes, this poses a difficult problem in asking the audience to share the feeli ....

Ben is constructed as being quiet and submissive, such as the fact that he stayed for a long time and put up with Greg using him for his telepathic gift, before finally coming into his own and running away. This is another example of Ben's submissiveness - he chose to sneak away from Greg quietly in the dead of the night, instead of a fight or a loud confrontation. He is also a humanitarian, as he cares for other animals, even when killing them. Dewey, then the Manhattan district attorney. Later on he worked in Albany under Republican governors, and served in the Eisenhower and Nixon administrations. Lawrence Walsh is a former Federal District Court judge, has practiced law on Wall Street and is the former president of the American Bar Association. Since Iran/Contra he has since gone on and wrote several more books on varying subjects. As the Independent Counsel investigating Iran/Contra, Walsh comes up with two distinct issues that Iran/Contra revolved around. ....

.... the draw. One who is consistently unlucky will not have great success at being hero. One example of Bilbo's luck is in chapter 2 when him and the dwarves are about to be roasted Gandalf shows up to save them all. Now given that that is not Bilbo in a heroic situation but it is a sign that he does get lucky. Another example of Bilbos' luck in a heroic situation is in chapter 9. Bilbo is very lucky when he is able to first escape the elves. He is again lucky when he is able to explore the elven palace at such great length.
