Star Trek - The Next Generation
2256 Words - 9 Pages.... the warbird
broke off the attack and quickly retreated back to Romulan space.
We hailed the ship and found out from her captain that he was alone.
His name was Shaq, captain of the Check Mate. He claimed to be a Romulan
captain in search of Federation asylum. I had never heard of such a thing; in
Romulan society, loyalty to the Romulan Empire is more sacred than life itself.
In any event, I was certain that we would learn a lot more during the next few
days.
Star date: 32851.5: Captain Shaq claimed that he was defecting in order
to prevent intergalactic war. He told us that the Romulan Empire has plans for
an abominable new weapon for use against the Federation ....

Hamlet: An Review And Summary
778 Words - 3 Pages.... like ourselves, whom we can identify with. Even though he truly begins the play as a hero, and also ends as one, he and the people he comes into contact with during the entire play experience tragic losses and deaths.
The play begins outside, on a very cold, foggy, dark night. The guards are watching the castle for fear that it may be attacked. This is to set the perfect mood for the tragedy that is about to unfold later in the story. Also, with lines like “Who’s there?” and “I am sick at heart”, the audience is already, in the first scene, given an indication that something is wrong.
The balance in Hamlet occurs when Hamlet shows grievance for his father’s ....

The Epilogue Of The Tempest By William Shakespeare
551 Words - 3 Pages.... but it makes sense in the context of the story, he ask us to "release [him] from [his] bands with the help of your good hands." In other words, clap so that the sails of the boats his friends are riding in will be safely returned and Prospero can be "relieved by prayer" of the audience.
All of what Prospero has said is very nice cute, but the most interesting part of this monologue is what Shakespeare himself is saying. "Now that my charms are all o'erthrown, and what strength I have's mine own" means, now my plays are over, and it's no longer my characters speaking. The "Island" or stage Shakespeare is on is now "bare" and it is time for "you" the audience to release ....

This is the first and most significant of the many sins that he makes in this play. By abdicating his throne to fuel his ego he is disrupts the great chain of being which states that the King must not challenge the position that God has given him. This undermining of God's authority results in chaos that tears apart Lear's world. (Williams) Leaving him, in the end, with nothing. Following this Lear begins to banish those around him that genuinely care for him as at this stage he cannot see beyond the mask that the evil wear. He banishes Kent, a loyal servant to Lear, and his youngest and previously most loved daughter Cordelia. (Nixon) This re ....

1844 Words - 7 Pages.... his kingdom according to a test of love. It is this test of
love which causes Lear to banish his most beloved daughter Cordelia. When asked
how much she loves her father, Cordelia replies that she loves him according to
her bond, no more nor less . This response angers Lear and causes him to ban
her for her refusal to comply. Lear is held to the belief that she does not
love him. He believes that the daughter which had loved him the most (and who
he loved the most) has broken his heart. He is suspicious and bans her because
he thinks that she is the only daughter who doesn't love him. It is Lear's
rashness which prevents him from seeing that she is speaking the tru ....

projection of each still image when no image is projected is normally not
noticed by the viewer.
Two perceptual phenomena--persistence of vision and the critical flicker
frequency--cause a continuous image. Persistence of a vision is the
ability of the viewer to retain or in some way remember the impression of
an image after it has been withdrawn from view. The critical flicker
frequency is the minimum rate of interruption of the projected light beam

1198 Words - 5 Pages.... the reader pondering the true nature of the work, that being whether it is a tragedy with accidental comic incidences or a comedy with weak melodramatic occurrences. It has been said that the “double mask of tragicomedy reveals the polarity of the human condition.” The contrariety of forces in the work serves to enforce a sense of both reality and drama that are present in everyday human life. The comic elements in the play serve as a form of determined self-preservation just as the tragic elements add to the notion of self-destruction. This is the true nature of a tragicomedy. By juxtaposing two irreconcilable positions, ambiguity is produced in the judgement of t ....
