Julius Caesar: The Corruption Of Power
869 Words - 4 Pages.... home and ask for the forgiveness of the
gods for the wrong the have done. Flavius and Marullus removed ornaments
from Caesar’s statues as a way to prevent Caesar from becoming a tyrant and
to show their anti-Caesar sentiments. Caesar put the two men “to silence”
or to death. This showed how he did not tolerate any nonsense. He did
not like opposition or anyone questioning him, even though Flavius and
Marullus had a right to express their beliefs. Caesar also presents his
despotic attitude, when Metellus Cimber begs him to reverse his brother’s
banishment. Caesar selfishly replied that this request “might fire the
blood of ordinary men…know, Caesar doth not wr ....

Medea: Looking For Revenge
963 Words - 4 Pages.... to the play, the status of women in Greek society
should be briefly discussed. In general, women had very few rights. In the
eyes of men, the main purposes of women in Greek society were to do housework
such as cooking and cleaning, and bear children. They could not vote, own
property, or choose a husband, and had to be represented by men in all legal
proceedings. In some ways, these Greek women were almost like slaves. There is
a definite relationship between this subordination of women and what transpires
in the play. Jason decides that he wants to divorce Medea and marry the
princess of Corinth, casting Medea aside as if they had never been married.

Tintern Abbey
337 Words - 2 Pages.... enjoyed the Abbey again through
his sister's eyes. Wordsworth himself said, “No poem of mine was composed
under circumstances more pleasant for me to remember than this.” One can
attribute the melancholy mood to Turner's style which was impressionistic
and typical of the era. The Slave Ship, another painting by Turner,
further proves this.
The placement, or the view of the abbey, is also inaccurate. In
the poem Wordsworth describes the abbey as being in a river valley, with
rivers and streams surrounding it. It also implies that the building is
positioned near a cliff. Even the title itself proves that the view
portrayed by Turner is inaccurate. Lines Composed a ....

Macbeth: Macbeth's Personality
1825 Words - 7 Pages.... we must not, therefore, deny him an entirely human complexity of motives. For example, his fighting in Duncan's service is magnificent and courageous, and his evident joy in it is traceable in art to the natural pleasure which accompanies the explosive expenditure of prodigious physical energy and the euphoria which follows. He also rejoices no doubt in the success which crowns his efforts in battle - and so on. He may even conceived of the proper motive which should energize back of his great deed:
The service and the loyalty I owe,
In doing it, pays itself.
But while he destroys the king's enemies, such motives work but dimly at best and are obscured in his consciousness ....

the Marlboro Man on his horse, and you think, "Hey they're pretty cool," so
decide to start smoking. How many times have you heard, "Here's that frog
commercial," and went running to the television to see what they were doing
now? You might start thinking that they are cool, so go and try their
product, which is just the thing the advertisement is trying to do.
Popular TV series also play a role as bad influences. Many shows
have the main character smoking or drinking. Take Rosanne, for instance;
the opening scene shows her sitting around a table playing poker, while her
husband smokes a cigar and drinks a beer. In Married With Children,

Death Of A Salesman: Willy Loman - A Tragic Hero
1055 Words - 4 Pages.... as if it were a
narcotic, and as the play progresses, the reader learns that it can be a
dangerous drug, because of it's addictiveness and it's deadliness.
The first time Willy is seen lapsing off into the past is when he
encounters Biff after arriving home. The conversation between Willy and Linda
reflects Willy's disappointment in Biff and what he has become, which is, for
the most part, a bum. After failing to deal adequately with his feelings, he
escapes into a time when things were better for his family. It is not uncommon
for one to think of better times at low points in their life in order to cheer
themselves up so that they are able to deal with the probl ....
