Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is a story set in the 1930’s set in Maycomb, Alabama about a white man, Atticus Finch, who defends a falsely accused black man. Atticus has two young children, Scout and Jem, Scout being the youngest. In this story Atticus is characterized as .... Middle of Paper .... Scout uses profanity in front of Uncle Jack. To deal with this situation, Atticus tells Uncle Jack that if they don’t pay attention to her she’ll get over this "stage". I believe it takes a lot more control to ignore the comment and continue doing what you were as opposed to punishing the child for such a minor incident. By taking this approach to the problem, it shows that Atticus took the time to assess the problem before taking any action. If she didn’t understand what it meant then there is no point in punishing her. More times ....
