Computer Crime 2
2800 Words - 11 Pages.... theft--will be brought under control in the years ahead by a combination of technology and proactive community policing. Creation of the cashless society, for example, will eliminate most of the rewards for robbers and muggers, while computer-controlled smart houses and cars will thwart burglars and auto thieves. Implanted bodily function monitors and chemical drips (such as "sober-up" drugs and synthesized hormones) will keep most of the sexually and physically violent offenders under control.
But computer criminals--ranging in age from preteen to senior citizen--will have ample opportunities to violate citizens' rights for fun and profit, and stopping them will require mu ....

Parity/Non-parity Check
236 Words - 1 Pages.... the loss went undetected, the character received on the other end of the
lime was incorrect.
To Prevent this from happening, a parity check system was developed.
Each character is represented by a byte consisting of a combination of
intelligence bits (seven bits in ASCII and eight bits in EBCDIC) and an
additional bit called a check or parity bit.
Even parity codes place a check bit with each byte that contains an
uneven number of 1 bits. (Remember that a bit is either 1 or o). Because
the check bit is transmitted only with characters composed of an uneven
number of 1 bits, all characters transmitted will have n even number of 1
bits. The check bit is transmitted ....

Will Computers Control Humans In The Future?
866 Words - 4 Pages.... of the stories, Profession,
Asimov writes about people being educated by computer programs designed to
educate effortlessly a person. According to the Profession story people
would no longer read books to learn and improve their knowledge. People
would rely on the computers rather than "try to memorize enough to match
someone else who knows" (Nine Tomorrows, Profession 55). People would not
chose to study, they would only want to be educated by computer tapes.
Putting in knowledge would take less time than reading books and memorizing
something that would take almost no time using a computer in the futuristic
world that Asimov describes. Humans might began to rely on co ....

Effects Of The Year 2000 Problem
1661 Words - 7 Pages.... commonly referred to as the Y2K
problem or the Millennium bug. The Y2K problem has to deal with how
computers keep track of the date. In almost every system before 1995 the
date that the computer kept was abbreviated. An example would be that 1951
would be abbreviated as 51. So, as a result, computers will read 00 and
think it's 1900 and not 2000. This seemingly small problem will result in a
loss of most records and information kept in computers causing a major
headache for government agencies and major businesses, not to mention all
home owners and other people. Gina Smith writes in a August 1998 issue of
Popular Science about the fixing of the problem
"You are probably ....

What Is Virtual Reality
4298 Words - 16 Pages.... data"
The visualization part refers to the computer generating visual, auditory
or other sensual outputs to the user of a world within the computer. This
world may be a CAD model, a scientific simulation, or a view into a
database. The user can interact with the world and directly manipulate
objects within the world. Some worlds are animated by other processes,
perhaps physical simulations, or simple animation scripts. Interaction with
the virtual world, at least with near real time control of the viewpoint,
in my opinion, is a critical test for a 'virtual reality'.
Some people object to the term "Virtual Reality", saying it is an oxymoron.
Other terms that have been used ....

working in the home, for some reason or another, many factors should be
considered. What kind of schedule does the employee feel constitutes
telecommuting? Generally speaking, telecommuting is defined as spending at
least one day out of a five day work week working in the home. Is one day home
enough for the employee? Or, too little? How does the employer decide how many
days to allow? Does the employee's job lend itself well to telecommuting? Some
jobs, obviously, can't be accomplished using a telecommuting format. Does the
employee have a good track record for working unsupervised? This relates back
