Another set of arguments Mac users use in favor of their sysstems over

An Insight Into Virtual Reality
1218 Words - 5 Pages.... the TV displays. It was not yet designed to provide a
surrounding environment. It was not until the mid '80's that virtual reality
systems were becoming more defined. The AMES contract started in 1985, came up
with the first glove in February 1986. The glove is made of thin Lycra and is
fitted with 15 sensors that monitor finger flexion, extension, hand position and
orientation. Connected to a computer through fiber optic cables. Sensor inputs
enable the computer to generate an on screen image of the hand that follows the
operator's hand movements. The glove also has miniature vibrators in the finger
tips to provide feedback to the operator from grasped virtual obje ....

Trends In Telecommunications
415 Words - 2 Pages.... just
ten years after the Chicago experiment, numerous telecommunications
providers rushed to install light wave systems. The US Sprint network was
the first to use a total fiber optic network to traverse the nation. By
1990, AT&T had installed 300 million miles of interexchange light wave
networks.
The advantages of light wave systems are many and include
• freedom from electrical disturbance
• tremendous bandwidth or information-carrying capacity
• small physical size
• relative low cost
The speed at which information can be moved through the fiber optic
cable is also an important advantage. AT&T established an experimental
fiber optic system that moves digit ....

Global Positioning Systems
3319 Words - 13 Pages.... the old method of DME position determination, you would tune one DME channel and draw a circle on your chart around the DME transmitter, the radius of which was your DME reading in nautical miles. Then you'd tune in a second DME station and repeat the process. On your chart at this point there would be two circles whose lines intersected at two points. Even a vague guess of your whereabouts would be enough to discard the bogus point, and you'd be left with a pretty good idea of your position. Better yet, take a cut from a third DME transmitter and draw a third circle on your chart. Now you'd have three intersecting circles and your position would be inside the little tri ....

The Motor And How It Works
346 Words - 2 Pages.... motor. I also know that the fields are opposite because the current travels through solenoid 1 in an opposite direction of solenoid 4. The parts that make the motor spin are solenoids 2 and 3. When the current travels through the motor, it goes through the two metal pieces that send the current into whichever solenoid is touching it (solenoid 2 or 3). When part 5 spins, the direction of the current through 2 and 3 are reversed every time the motor spins half way around. The metal pieces touch the solenoids in just the right places to give solenoids 2 and 3 a magnetic field that attracts 1 and repels 4 and visa versa.
The end result is that as 2 or 3 approaches 1 or 4, ....
