Substance Abuse And Musicians
507 Words - 2 Pages

.... Or, I can focus on one particular rock star: the events in the life of Brad Nowell, lead singer of Sublime, up to his eventual death due to an overdose on drugs. Or, the events of the life of Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith, throughout his years as a drug user. Research questions may be: why do rock star’s turn to drugs when they already have all they need? What led Brad Nowell (or any musician) to drugs? What are the fatalities of substance abuse in rock stars? The reason I am interested in this topic is not only because it can hold my interest, but I also want to see if I can analyze some reasons for turning to drugs. I am planning on majoring in psychology a ....

Review Of Gyorgi Ligeti's Danse Macarbei
279 Words - 2 Pages

.... the listener. If I were inattentive before this piece, I certainly was wide awake when it was over. Ligeti seems to have sculpted a piece together from bits and pieces of other musical styles: a sort of modern-art approach to music. The violins tuning without a care in the first few moments, the slow mock continuo of the highly dissonant bassoon counterpoint, and the later high pitch of a clarinet all seem to be broad, bold strokes on a canvas of sound. Ideas come floating to the front of the imaginary "stage", and drop back behind newer themes. The percussion also adds considerably to the complexity of the piece in the later minutes, stomping along without any respe ....

Bela Fleck And The Flecktones Concert
391 Words - 2 Pages

.... nothing like I had ever seen before; the combination of instruments was to say the least, a very unique mixture. The most amazing part of the instruments was that the percussionist played the drums on a guitar looking instrument that ran through speakers. Then they started to play and I was completely blown away. The talent the band displayed was amazing, I was blown away. The music is a unique mixture of many different genres; jazz, rock, R&B and funk, to name a few. Much of the music had no singing and the songs were very long and complicated, involving different parts and many complicated solos. In between songs each musician performed solos on their instruments, whi ....

No Thanks, I'll Take Real Music
346 Words - 2 Pages

.... produce is very main stream. You will never hear them sing about a controversial topic. If the bands did write and sing music about these topics, they would expand their range of listeners but they would also loose the nice clean cut image. I don't think that any of these bands have to struggle because before you know it these feel good-happy music groups are popping up everywhere. What should they do? When most bands start playing they go through many years of building a fan following. That's the problem with these groups. Playing with instruments would help a lot! A solid bass line and a little good guitar never hurt anybody. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone ....
