939 Words - 4 Pages.... week while my grandmother tended seven children. My own mother was not even allowed to attend college because they believed that "girls weren't supposed to go to college". Inequality and gender difference was very visible. Do to social construction, my mother grew up believing that there were certain jobs for men and certain jobs for women. Ironically it was the changing society of the late 60's and early 70's that gave my mother the motivation to question tradition. I feel that in this situation it's not society in general that constructs gender but simply ignorance through tradition. In my mothers case it wasn't society at all but merely her families strict traditional val ....

Activity Based Costing
820 Words - 3 Pages.... Overhead has grown to become the most expensive element of product cost structure.
This might not be so bad if conventional product costing systems could handle the shift in cost structure. Unfortunately, they don’t. Most conventional systems allocate overhead based on some burdened rate (direct labor hours is a good example). This was acceptable when overhead was small and direct costs were high. But in today’s automated factory, this can lead to disaster. Conventional systems report inaccurate product costs--often grossly inaccurate. Management, in turn, makes strategic decisions based on these inaccurate product costs.
Traditional cost systems assume all overh ....

well as lower frequency sounds (bass violin, tuba) require more power to be
heard at the same level as a midrange sound (voice, trumpet). The internal
amplifier in the head unit must be able to generate enough wattage for the
SPL (sound pressure level) of the higher frequencies to be heard clear in a

Christmas Traditions Around Th
1168 Words - 5 Pages.... On Christmas Eve, Greek children go from house to house knocking on doors and singing Greek songs that tell of the arrival of the Christ child. The family celebration focuses on a Christmas Eve dinner, which, in the Greek Orthodox tradition, follows several weeks of fasting. According to legend, mischievous, often hideous looking elves called Kallikantzaroi wreak havoc in houses for the next 12 days. Burning incense or leaving a peace offering is supposed offer some protection against the elves. Most families decorate a small wooden cross with basil and dip it into a shallow bowl of water. This is believed to give the water holy powers. The water is then sprinkled throug ....

Effective Writing Is Important
491 Words - 2 Pages.... writing are more
important than any other.
Voice in a piece of writing can bring rewards like nothing else can.
Voice is the key to getting the reader involved in an essay. Without it, the
reader becomes passive and the essay can not be comprehended. Most essays have
the essential material, so the manner in which the material is presented can
make a difference. When voice is properly executed in an essay, the reader can
interact with the writing and make the necessary connections. The best
sportswriters in the country are experts in using voice. How else can one
become involved in the action? Without voice, a play by play description can
become a tedious mass of words. ....
