Remains Of The Day
2953 Words - 11 Pages.... makes many insightful observations on human behavior in general. I will explore a few of these observations here, and attempt to show that Ishiguro’s work possesses meaning far beyond an examination of one emotionally-repressed servant.
Ishiguro illustrates Stevens, and all of the old English butlers, as characters who basically amount to machines, unable to think for themselves. They see loyalty to the master as the only thing that matters in the world. Every time Stevens ends his lines with "sir," he is repressing his true identity. Ishiguro makes the reader wonder how on earth a person could get to be like this, for the sole reward of having the best si ....

He then says act 3 scene 2 line 81, “the noble brutus hath told you Caesar was ambitious, if it were so it was a grievous fault, and grievously hath Caesar answered it”. This meant that because Caesar was ambitious he deserved to die. He then says act 3 scene 2 line 91”Brutus is an honourable man. He hath brought many captures home to Rome, whose ransom did the general coffers fill. Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? When that the poor hath cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff, yet brutus says he was ambitious. And brutus is an honourable man” This meant Caesar ....

All she wants to do is give her brother, Polynices, a proper burial. Because Polynices was fighting to overtake Thebes, Creon makes a law against his burial; he wants Polynices body to rot in open air. “ No, he must be left unburied, his corpse carrion for the birds and dogs to ....

Medea Guilty As Charged

Soon after they met, he relieved her of a wretched, barbarian life and introduced her to our great Greek land, teaching her “how to live by law instead of the sweet will of force” (line 538). When he arrived in Corinth, he further extended his generosity. An opportunity arose to preserve Medea and breed a royal progeny to be brothers to his children by marrying the daughter of our great king Creon (595-7). Medea refused to accept all that Jason offered and labeled him disloyal for seeking another wife. However, our great society allows men to pursue ....

Romeo And Juliet
911 Words - 4 Pages.... part of the plan already might not work. For example, the nurse could insist on sleeping in Juliet’s sleeping chambers or Juliet’s’ parents could insist on it. If this was the matter, Friar should have an excuse that Juliet could use just in case.
Take thou this vial, being then in bed,
And this distilling liquor drink thou off;
When presently through all thy veins shall run
A cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse
Shall keep his native progress, but surcease;
(4.2.93-97)

Then as she stood on the bridge she describes the creek as "It smashed under the bridge like a fist, but there is no end to its force" (315) Dillard uses similes to tell the reader of her fear.
Dillard uses diction to show her excitement about the flood. Action verbs portray the excitement of flood. 869 Words - 4 Pages.... hard, gratuitous quality of life."
Stubbs begins by showing other examples, notably in In Our Time and The Sun Also
Rises, in which Hemingway's characters revert to role-playing in order to escape
or retreat from their lives. The ability to create characters who play roles, he
says, either to "maintain self-esteem" or to escape, is one Hemingway exploits
extraordinarily well in A Farewell to Arms and therefore it "is his richest and
most successful handling of human beings trying to come to terms with their
vulnerability."
As far as Stubbs is concerned, Hemingway is quite blatant in letting us know
that role-playing is what is occurring. He tells that the role-playing begin ....
