.... narrative. Reinforcing its literal presence in the novel, an echo of India appears in Mrs. Dalloway's narrative rhythms. Like the intricate percussion of the Indian tabla, the fabric of Woolf's narrative comprises a polyrhythmic texture that subtly undermines London's booming metronome: Big Ben. The beautiful and complex narrative of Mrs. Dalloway seems to defy readers' powers of description. David Dowling's Mapping Streams of Consciousness exemplifies a sense one must ``reconstruct'' the text in order to understand it. In a section entitled ``A Reading,'' Dowling dissects the novel into neat structural packages so the reader can easily study its anatomy. He includes maps ....

Crane opens the novel with a description of the fields at dawn: \"As the landscape changed from brown to green, the army awakened, and began to tremble with eagerness at the noise of rumors\". The fog clears to reveal a green world of grass. It also reveals another green world, the world of youth. Like school children, the young soldiers circulate rumor within the regiment. This natural setting proves an ironic place for killing, just as these fresh men seem the wrong ones to be fighting in the Civil War. Crane remarks on this later in the narrative: \"He was aware that these battalions with their commotions were woven red and startling into the gentle fabr ....

.... the story, Iago portrays himself as a Satan figure. In many ways, Iago can compare with Satan. Iago, like Satan, has proved himself to be a master of deception. He lies to everyone taking great care to disguise his own thoughts. For example, in Act 1 scene 2, when he is speaking to about his feelings toward Cassio, he uses very strong language, while at the same time, he lies throughout the whole speech faking loyalty to a fellow soldier and all the while implying that he is reluctantly holding back the full truth: "I had rather have this tongue cut from my mouth. Than it should do offense to Michael Cassio" (I.ii.21-22). This deception impresses and convinces ....

.... grow up like other people. Better than others..." Charlie had dreams of how his mother was ashamed of him. His mother always thought her son was normal and would grow up and be somebody. "...He's like a baby. He can't play Monopoly or checkers or anything. I won't play with him anymore..." Charlie's sister also ignored him. To her, Charlie was dumb and could not do anything. Charlie had dreams of his sister yelling at him and making fun of him. He also had memories of the night his parents took him to the Warren Home. He was terrified and his dad would never answer his questions. Charlie remembered his childhood and through his memories, he felt guilty for hurting his family. ....

.... everything. This is definitely something a person would not experience if they chose to live at home. Cost is a major issue when deciding where to live. Living at home could save a person several dollars, while staying in a dorm could cost a small fortune. When living at home, a person does not have to spend extra money as one would if they lived in a dorm. For example, in a dorm parents no longer provide necessities such as food, shampoo, toothpaste, and all. That person now has to come up with the money to provide these things for themselves. However, this can teach a person good money management skills. There comes a point in everyone's life when they must take control, ....

.... whose reason for being was to "love, honor, obey, and occasionally amuse her husband." She was expected to raise "his children " and "manage his household." The central meaning of her life was family and motherhood. The everyday realities of life for a married woman were different from the expected image. Women were often transformed from single, carefree, sought -after girls to responsible, submissive, plantation mistresses. They were led to believe that depraved women and men were the only sexual creatures; thus, they were supposedly incapable of erotic feelings. Women were often uneducated, and when they began to voice their opinion concerning a need for education ....

.... head down on the pillow…. She began to cry a little, and wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her peignoir." (7) This is the first incident in which we see Edna's depression. At first, it doesn't seem like it is that significant, but Edna then goes out and sits on the porch and cries some more: " The tears came so fast to Mrs. Pontellier's eyes that the damp sleeve of her peignoir refused to dry them…. Turning, she trust her face, steaming and wet into the bend of her arm and went on crying there, not caring any longer to dry her face, her eyes, her arms.
