Reaching For Dreams - A Ballet
671 Words - 3 Pages.... expected to read another boring drawn out diary. Amazingly this book was difficult for me to put down because I became so enthralled by the process of putting on a ballet.
At the beginning of this book the author describes the dancers coming in on a rainy Monday morning to begin warm-ups and rehearsal. This of course is the beginning of their voyage to opening night. The dancers taking part in this production were from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. The ballet that they plan to perform in seven weeks is called “Speeds.” The choreographer of “Speeds” is a world-renowned woman by the name of Jennifer Mullers. This production contains a cast of eleven dancers ....

Personality Development (Psych
1044 Words - 4 Pages.... strongly not to rush the child into adulthood, but at the same time, not to hinder the child to remain young forever. When a stage is sufficiently completed, one can pass over into the next stage healthy and strong, which will help him/her to fulfill the rest of the eight stages (Shaffer 103)
Neither Freud nor Erikson deal with women extensively in personality development (except in the phallic symbols, etc. which don’t need to be discussed here), but Karen Horney does. She talks about how parents rear their children to be manly/womanly from birth itself, giving them toys “male toys” (guns, soldiers, etc.) and “female toys” (dolls, tea sets, etc.). Anoth ....

American Gulag The Death Of Bu
987 Words - 4 Pages.... the audience during the strange proceedings, but their confusion immediately turned to horror as the man behind the podium retrieved a manilla envelope from his desk, and from the envelope he withdrew a fully loaded .357 magnum with a 6.5 inch barrel. There was a resounding chorus of, "No, Budd no!", and several curses as a few of the cameramen dove to the floor. The man with the gun tried in vain to calm the panic stricken crowd by waving his free hand around in placating manner and repeatedly saying, "No." After only a few seconds the room quieted and the man said, "Please leave the room if this will offend you." He then said, "Please stay back, this will hurt some ....

Being An Inroads Intern
454 Words - 2 Pages.... a job that is related to my major. I’m not sure which type of job exactly, as I haven’t yet decided on a major or job, but I know I want some type of a leadership role. I also want to be able to utilize my language and problem-solving skills, while working my way up the corporate ladder.
Secondarily, in order to achieve these goals I’ll also need real experience in my job field in order to see what it’s like. I’ll need to learn how to work out plausible solutions to problems, (whether they are in my law firm, in my company, global, or something else entirely different that I may decide along the way) along with my future colleagues. An INROADS experience would help ....

Discussing Literary Genre
946 Words - 4 Pages.... nature of the literary experience calls attention to the importance of the interaction between reader and text to provide the final word on genre.
Although there is considerable theoretical debate about the definition of specific genres, the conventional definition tends to be based on the idea that texts within a genre share particular conventions of content and form, such as themes, settings, structure and style. However, the nature of genre leads to several problems inherent in the defining of genres. Certain genres are looser and more open ended in their conventions than other genres and some genres have many conventions while others have very few. Furthermore, li ....

The Journey Of Odysseus And Te
2542 Words - 10 Pages.... by his fathers side. This is directly connected to the voyage of Odysseus, in that they both lead to the same finale, and are both stepping stones towards wisdom, manhood, and scholarship. Through these voyages certain parallels are drawn concerning Odysseus and Telemachos: the physical journeys, the mental preparations they have produced, and what their emotional status has resulted in. These all partake a immense role in the way the story is set up, stemming from the purpose of each character’s journey, their personal challenges, and the difficulties that surround them.
The story commences when Odysseus, a valiant hero of the Trojan war, journeys back home. Togethe ....

The Awakening

Chopin carefully establishes that Edna does not neglect her children, but only her mother-woman image. Chopin illustrates the idea by telling the reader, "...Mrs. Pontellier was not a mother-woman" (689). Edna tries to explain to Adele how she feels about her children and how she feels about herself, which greatly differs from the mother-woman image. She says, "I would give up the unessential; I would give my money; I would give my life for my children; but I wouldn't give myself. I can't make it more clear; it's onl ....

Swift's "A Modest Proposal"
1539 Words - 6 Pages.... the true irony in this
story lies not in the analyzation of minute details in the story, but
rather in the context of the story as it is written.
One of the voices that is present throughout the story is that of irony.
The story itself is ironic since no one can take Swifts proposal seriously.
This irony is clearly demonstrated at the end of the story; Swift makes it
clear that this proposal would not affect him since his children were grown
and his wife unable to have any more children. It would be rather absurd to
think that a rational man would want to both propose this and partake in
the eating of another human being. Therefore, before an analyzation can
continue, one ....
