The traditional words of a burial service “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” are not altered for the cremation, the interior chamber “looked cool, clean, and sunny” as by a graveside, and the coffin was presented “feet first” as in a ground burial. In selecting aspects of a traditional burial service, Shaw's mood is revealed as ambivalent toward cremation by imposing recalled fragments of ground burial for contrast. He is also a racist, always talking about the “White Race” needing to conquer all. “It’s up to us who are the dominant race to watch out or these other races will have control of things.” Tom is the perfect example of the kind of amoral people described in the book. Instead, the old, the poor, and the rich are buying something to have as their own when they have nothing else, whether it be in the material, social, or emotional sense. And in that, they are hoping to find freedom in knowing that their lives are less empty and without direction. She was angry at June for not being obedient, not doing what she told her to, and ruining her reputation in her little circle of friends. This one time June’s Mom basically forced June to take piano lessons, because she wanted June to be prodigy. June did take the lessons , unfortunately she had no other choice.
