Bea has been a teacher at Calvin Coolidge for a very long time and she automatically makes Sylvia her friend. Bea shows Sylvia the ropes; what to do, what not to do, where to go, where not to go. That kind of stuff. Bea is a good teacher, and a good friend to Sylvia. One of Sylvia's students is Joe Ferone. Joe is a rebel and a hoodlum. Joe barely ever comes to class. Sylvia really wants to help Joe. Sylvia tries to schedule after school sessions with Joe, but he never shows up. Towards the end of the story I ....

Hester took the blame and did not lie about what happened. Abigail lied and made her friends lie just so she would not get in trouble for her sin. Abigail's behavior and involvement of others created a more complex reason to judge her as less respectable of the two. Hester was not secretive about committing her crime as Abigail was. Abigail is even described as "an orphan with an endless capacity for dissembling" (page 9). This proves that she tried to cover up her actions. Hester did not ....

He was fat, and obviously enjoyed good food as well as fine clothes. He wore a fur cloak adorned with fancy decorations, and other expensive apparel. It was required that a man go to school to become a monk, and the Monk had attended school to become part of the religious order. However, he was more interested in hunting than studying. He was good to his horses, and had greyhounds as well. His friends were hunters also. The Monk even preached against ideas and traditions that called hunters unholy. Milton uses the story of the fallen angels to open out on numerous eras, civilisations, myths and stories, allowing him to convey his own perception of the world's history, as the reader is guided through various points in time. Before we are introduced to the individuals, Milton depicts an enormous army of different species, each of changeable size and form. The image of a "pitchy cloud / Of locusts" to describe them as they rise from the burning lake is especially apt, given the destructive nature of, and biblical references to these insects.
