Official Netscape Guide To Internet Research, Second Edition
975 Words - 4 Pages.... are some glaring copy editing errors throughout the text- such as on page 3--the first page of Chapter 1. Here, in the first paragraph, there are two obvious typos in the text.
Chalk it up to careless copy editing--some of it possibly due to the transition between Ventana and Coriolis. Not the authors' faults, but unfortunately, it detracts from the book. I found it annoying, at any rate.
Since the original Official Netscape Guide to Internet Research had Ms. Calishain's byline, the second edition differs because it talks to readers in the "we" collective voice, instead of first-person "I". It's pretty much the same information, except rewritten. Ms. Calishain's sense ....

The Odyssey Character Essay On
501 Words - 2 Pages.... Furthermore, Polyphemus blocks his
cave using an enormous boulder. In addition to that, Odysseus and his men
stab the Cyclops in the eye and flee out to sea where Odysseus taunts him. Out of rage, the Cyclops tears off a hilltop and hurled it at Odysseus's ship. "The blind thing in his fury broke a hilltop in his hands and heaved it at us". The Cyclops is cool because he can beat up despicable people such as thieves and outlaws.
The Cyclops is a gullible character. First off, the Cyclops believes
Odysseus when he tells him that his name is Nohbdy. "Nohbdy is my meat
and then I eat his friends". Moreover, he accepted wine from Odysseus and his men, people ....

Summary Of Gulliver's Travels
603 Words - 3 Pages.... revealing true qualities and ineptitude of people.
The imagination and insightfulness of Swift are amazing.
On his first voyage, Dr. Lemuel Gulliver visits the land of
Lilliput, supposedly in the South Pacific. In this unusual world, all
people are merely six inches tall. The tallest trees are only six feet
tall, and the largest building, the palace of the king, was tall enough for
Gulliver to leap over, although he would not dare do that, for he must be
very careful not to crush anyone or break the buildings. The country of
Lilliput is in the process of a war with Blefescu, the neighbor island to
the north east. Gulliver becomes aware of the complexities of human ways ....

Inferno
303 Words - 2 Pages.... sins described by the author in the circles of hell. Betrayal, the most serious sin that the person can commit, is represented by one of the three beasts. Dante puts sinners of that kind in the last, most horrible circle of hell. A lion is a symbolic creature for this sin. Each beast, like everything else in the poem, displays precise meaning of each sin by its nature. The second by its significance is hunger, which is represented by a she-wolf. This beast is the symbol of all the cravings such as sex, food and money. However, the first beast that Dante sees is a leopard. His spots on the body are very meaningful; they have ability to change if we look at baby deer, for examp ....

Lord Of The Flies
380 Words - 2 Pages.... over someone ore something.
In the beginning of this book the conch was regarded as having power and authority: "I'll[Ralph] give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he is speaking." (Golding 33)
The struggle of power in this book was very strong separation of the groups. The conch seemed to be the only common bond between the two groups. Even though Jacks' group was separate, when Ralph blew the conch in chapter 10 the boys on Jacks side came out and looked to see what was going on, they still believed in the power of the conch: "He [Ralph] put the conch to his lips and began to blow. Savages appeared, painted out of recognition, edging round the l ....

All Quiet On The Western Front
627 Words - 3 Pages.... die. This is mainly through each of the character's personalities, which are so well-developed that you find yourself wondering if these were real people at some time or another and you might travel to Germany to meet them. The plot is not linear, and in most cases I would say that this is a negative thing. However, in the book the author actually uses it to enhance the storyline by not dwelling on any one scene for too long. Many chapters end and you find yourself wondering if there was supposed to be more. By the end, you realize that it actually enhances the plot greatly. One moment the people might be eating and bathing in the barracks, and the page after they are fi ....

Anne Bradstreet And Sarah Kemble Knight: Writing Styles
632 Words - 3 Pages.... 10, 1666,” Bradstreet is able to express a tender sentiment without being sentimental as a result of her simplistic word choice. Religious ideas also surface as common themes. Bradstreet makes it clear that material and earthly possessions have no true worth, and for this reason, one should not become attached to them. On the contrary, Knight’s writing reflects the flair and care-free attitude of the independent woman that she was. Her narrative format allows her to comment and pass judgment on any of various things she encountered. She was a keen social observer and she was not hesitant to write with humor of those people by whom she was entertained. Her accounts ....
