Unwillingly, Rainsford picks to go hunting and hopes to survive the three days. If he did live, he would be set free with money and new clothing, so Zaroff says… On the hunting trip, Rainsford successfully avoids Zaroff for three days by hiding and setting up traps, then he preten ....

In order to achieve his aim, Montressor elaborates a plan which consists basicaly of two steps: first, to take Fortunato to the catacombs of the Montressors, and second, to arrest Fortunato down there forever. Irony first appears in Fortunato's name, once we are made aware, in the second paragraph, that he is going to be killed, but it ( the irony ) continues present during all the short story as something to call our attention to what is really happening. In the second paragraph Montressor states that in spite of his decision of killing Fortunato, he continued smiling ....

This passage, through the words and phrases employed by McInerney as both dialogue and narration, is strong support for the concept that like the Coma Baby, the main character wants to avoid facing the harsh realities of life and continue living isolated in his world of narcotic-induced pleasure. The author uses the interaction of the main character and the Coma Baby as proof that the main character will not realize the fallacies of his ways until he has hit rock-bottom. The Coma Baby is shown to be the symbolic representation of the main character through his actions and philosophy toward life, a philosophy wholly irresponsible ....

.... But I would guess if the father of that young child were alive, that the punishment would be harsher than locking him in the room. The young boy notices a peephole, and invades his mother's privacy. But he seems to be doing this only when she punishes him. The young boy loved the sea, and would spend as much time going to the port to see the ships arrive and depart. He would invite his mother to go along with him. That is how his mother met the sailor, and they fell in love. MAIN PURPOSE: The young boy is happy and begin his friendship with the sailor, and soon found out that his mother has along fell in love with the sailor. Thinking that this is only ....

.... even getting caught had it's benefits. He planned it so, those he despised would take the fall and many, including him would benefit somehow. In the end everyone got what they wanted except the selfish ones who deserved nothing but the inevitable, punishment. I believe the author wants everyone to see that at one time or another everyone wants to escape his or her life, that not everybody's life is as great as it may seem, regardless of money. He wants you to see you have to find your own way to make yourself happy but you should be prepared to face the consequences of any drastic actions which the main character was prepared to do. Piggy gives the conch a little toot and summons the rest of the boys on the island to the beach. The boys assemble and elect Ralph as the leader. Ralph then assigns the Choir, led by Jack, to be the hunters. Then Jack, Ralph, and Simon set out to explore the island. Near the end of their journey, they encounter a wild pig. Jack tries to kill it, but is unsuccessful. When the explorers get back, a meeting is held. The explorers explain that the island is deserted but there is enough food to keep them alive.
