Animal Farm Vs. Marxism
1505 Words - 6 Pages.... who got the rebellion started even though he died before it actually began. Old Majors role compares to Lenin and Marx whose ideas were to lead to the communist revolution. Animal Farm is a criticism of Karl Marx, as well as a novel perpetuating his convictions of democratic Socialism. (Zwerdling, 20). Lenin became leader and teacher of the working class in Russia, and their determination to struggle against capitalism. Like Old Major, Lenin and Marx wrote essays and gave speeches to the working class poor. The working class in Russia, as compared with the barnyard animals in Animal Farm, were a laboring class of people that received low wages for their wor ....

The Outsiders
1071 Words - 4 Pages.... of their own age group and
reflects many issues that they themselves may face.
The language of the text is easily understood as are the themes in the story. It
contains themes that would interest a young mind, showing many students the
seedier side of life. What it would be like to live under such circumstances in
constant fear of their lives. It deals with gang warfare, alcohol, drugs, child
abuse, murder, survival and growing up. These are areas that a pubescent
teenager can easily lose themselves in. It forces the reader to realise that in
many cases teenagers have no choice in what lifestyles that are born into in
this case either becoming the rich kid or the kid from ....

Each embryo is then bottled, labelled and sent down the conveyor belt to the "Social Predestination Room". It is here that they are given a caste designation (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Epsilon), carded into the main card index and stored. It is here that they are "sexed". Thirty percent of the female embryos are allowed to progress normally (to maintain the supply of initial ova). The rest of the female embryos are given a large dos ....

865 Words - 4 Pages.... the forest. As Hester and Pearl are

explains that the witches are meeting in the forest, and she then invites Hester
to become more deeply involved with her evil ways. "Wilt thou go with us
tonight"(113) asked mistress Hibbins, yet Hester refused to sign her name in the

"The Ministers Black Veil" And "The Scarlet Letter": Judgmentalality
574 Words - 3 Pages.... In "The Ministers Black Veil" no one knew why the minister wore
the veil but everyone assumed it meant shame and that he had something to
hide. I think that the minister thought that it was his mission to show
how superficial the people were. The ministers own fiancee left him
because no one knew anything about the veil he wore. Again in The Scarlet
Letter, I can think of two more major examples where an object was used
as a sign or omen. The first is of course the letter, it meant evil,
shame, and sin to the townspeople. All it was, was a letter nothing more,
nothing less. The second object that people took as a prolific sign was
the weeds on a grave. The ....

In the main character is . began his life as a wild wolf-dog, but he was taken by an Indian as a pup, and was domesticated. He soon learned the power of his master and obeyed his laws, even though his wild instincts told him not to, as London notes:

Huckleberry Finn: A Good Role Model
637 Words - 3 Pages.... to sell Jim and separate him from his family. Huck decides against better
reasoning to help Jim escape down the Mississippi River to Cairo.
Another example of good role modeling is Huck's faithfulness to those he
loves and cares for. Huck lies to protect Jim on several occasions. Lying is
not the best thing, but to Huckleberry, the truth is not always a black and
white issue. He is faithful to his friends and chooses friendship instead. He
knows that Jim's family needs him. In today's language, Huckleberry's reaction
to Jim's situation would reflect what Spock of Star Trek says, “The needs of the
many outweigh the needs of the few.”
An illustration of another po ....

Royalists and the Bonapartist cut at each others throats in order to declare that their ruler was supreme. This situation has a profound effect on the events of the story. Dantes' enemies used the rivalry between the two parties in order to convince the Royalists that Edmond is a Bonapartist, therefore it is the basis for his arrest and inevitable captivity in the Chateau D'If..
