Macbeth Imagery
859 Words - 4 Pages.... a good example of darkness imagery because when
you think of the crashing thunder, lightning and rain, they all remind you of
evil and ominous things. Later on the Sergeant is talking with Duncan and
Malcolm when he states "Ship wrecking storms and direful thunders break" (1. 2.
l26). Again this darkness imagery contributes to the ominous atmosphere of the
play, having reference to thunder and dark storms. Finally, Lady Macbeth and
Macbeth are talking in the scene just before the murder of Banquo and Macbeth
says "Light thickens, and the crow makes wing to the rooky wood: Good things of
day begin to droop and drowse, whiles night's black agents to their preys do
rouse" (3 ....

Macbeth: Banquo's Soliloquy
397 Words - 2 Pages.... to be the king and would do anything to get the crown.
Banquo knows Macbeth has it in him to commit murder.
In the next three lines, Banquo explains that he should really be the
king because the witches also proclaimed that Banquo would be the "root and
father of many kings." In the line, "May they not be my oracles as well and set
me up in hope?", Banquo is saying that he wants the prophesies to come true for
him also and make him the king and the beginning of a long line of kings.
The main idea of his soliloquy is that Banquo knows that Macbeth killed
Duncan. Strangely enough, this soliloquy is placed two scenes before he died,
not giving him enough time to tell anyo ....

The Crucible's Giles Corey: More Weight
456 Words - 2 Pages.... then she close her book and walks out of the house, and suddenly--mark
this--I could pray again!” (p. 40) The explanation for this was very
simple: Giles was not a churchgoing man. But, not realizing what he had
done, Giles Corey had just sentenced his wife to be hanged.
The hysteria over witches continues to grow, and Corey's wife is
tried as a witch. When he realizes what he has caused to happen, Giles is
overcome by guilt and grief. He begs for his wife to be released.
Furthermore, when Giles offers evidence that Putnam falsely accused a man
as a witch in order to get his land, and the judge asks Corey to give the
name of the man who heard Putnam's conversation as ev ....

Measure For Measure - Critique
447 Words - 2 Pages.... by the actors and are carried through with a sense
of distance and unfamiliarity, seldom seem at a a festival as prestigious
as North America's largest and arguably best Shakespearian festival. The
play carries on for almost 3 hours, and is tempered with boredom (e.g.
Isabella's laughably unimpassioned speech to Angelo), and momentary spots
of humour (e.g. the some-times hilarious exchange between Lucio, a servant
to the Duke, and the Duke disguised as a friar. This moment of ironic
comedy is certainly one of the play's highlights, and is a model for many
modern humour pieces) which all serve to create a less than enthralling
afternoon of "not so high" drama. I will not ....

"The Fate Of Oedipus"
869 Words - 4 Pages.... seems as if he knows that he is ill fated, but reading on he clarifies his pain in this way; "Each of you suffers in himself alone/His anguish, not another's; but my spirit/Groans for the city, for myself, for you" (Sophocles 5). His pain is not his future; it is the plague of the country.
The same basic prophecy of Oedipus is proven in many characters. No matter how many times a specific character tried to play off fate and try to get rid of the situation it stayed exactly the same. Teiresias, the oracle, knows the end of all fates. He knows that fate control every minute of an individual's life, "How dreadful knowledge of the truth can be/When there's not help in truth! ....

Creative Writing Of Hamlet
539 Words - 2 Pages.... told me to keep
things in order when he was away. I guess I screwed up. I remember one
incident in particular.
I was must have been eight years old at the time. Dad was going to
fight in Norway. We had a talk before he left. We sat down in the
courtyard. It was a beautiful day and dad's presence was like another sun.
He seemed to glow as he spoke to me. He said, "Hammy, I will be away for a
while. I want you to watch mommy, and guard our fortress from invaders.
Take this. It will help you be strong." He gave me a small gold dagger.
He left that afternoon and I knew he wouldn't be back for a long time.
Things carried on as usual. I ran around the castle playi ....

The Simpsons

enjoy the violent cartoons of "Itchy and Scratchy". Maggie, the baby of the
family, is known for constantly smacking her pacifier. She is portrayed as
being smarter than Homer. Almost every little thing in the show is intended
tobe humorous.
In general the show is very funny but has some bad language and other
offensive material. The fact that the show is a cartoon may be what has kept
some people from watching. The cartoon though is what helps achieve many of the
humorous aspects. For example a spill of nuclear waste would not be very
amusing in a show with real people.
The show has the assumption that it is OK if your family ar ....

The Caretaker By Pinter: A Play Can Be Confrontational, Challenging And Disturbing To The Values And Assumptions Of An Audience. Discuss With Close
1946 Words - 8 Pages.... no absolute
truths or realities. Pinter is therefore concerned with what exists as unknown
and intangible to humanity. His theatre interrogates the truth of nature and
realities of language and demonstrates that much of what the audience regards as
fact is fiction as he explores the uncertainty of human existence.
When an audience of the 1960's went to the theatre, it can generally be assumed
that they had preconceived ideas about what they expected and what they are
going to gain from the theatrical experience. The traditional attitudes towards
theatre and the conventions of realist drama are disrupted by Pinter. This
confronts the assumptions and values of the audience, ....
